Change is powerful, yet uncomfortable. Change takes time, and it takes courage. In order to change, we must first swallow our pride. Next, look ourselves in the mirror, have the self-awareness to see what needs to be changed, and take one step forward to initiate the change. It’s time we get comfortable with the uncomfortable. That’s simply the only way we will get better. It’s the truly the only way we can move past social injustices and move towards becoming anti-racist together.
With everything going on right now, Father’s Day has completely snuck up on me, and I am TOTALLY unprepared #sorryRyan. 2020 has been challenging (to say the least), but Ryan has been so beyond helpful and supportive. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without him. From cooking meals to helping with the kids to keeping the house clean (so I could participate in 8 hours of Zoom calls a day), he deserves to be celebrated, as do all the dads in your lives as well. I have put together a Father’s Day gift guide of the 13…
In the same vein of the black-owned fashion brands post that I wrote yesterday, I also wanted to dedicate a post to black-owned beauty brands that you need to support now. In complete transparency, I am even less educated in black-owned beauty brands than I am in fashion brands. However, I have spent some time educating myself, researching other people’s recommendations, and narrowing down the list to the ten companies I am most excited to try.
Over the past 8 days, I have been self-reflecting, taking inventory of my thoughts, and looking myself in the mirror and asking “how can I do better?” I realized very quickly that I have not done enough to support Black-owned fashion brands on this site and through my own personal shopping recommendations. And that ends right now.
Is it just me or are you guys completely out of practice when it comes to picking out outfits to wear after so many months at home?! The other day I literally was wearing a cute leopard print blouse with bike shorts underneath for a Zoom call for work. If your state is like Alabama, then some of the social distancing and stay-at-home orders are being relaxed and that means we are going to have to slowly start re-emerging from our homes….in real clothes.
It’s been exactly 2 months-65 days to be exact—since we have been quarantined at home together. Whew. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve yelled, we’ve screamed, we’ve reflected, we’ve loved, and most importantly, we’ve grown. More on that later, because as I type this, we are heading to our happy place: 30A! A MUCH needed change of scenery, a disconnect from work, salt in our hair, and sun on our cheeks is EXACTLY what we need right now. As summer approaches, I realize travel will be a little different this year. However, if you have beach plans coming up or even…
I am so excited to share a new (to me) online shop that I recently discovered and have fallen in love with. I first heard of Verishop when I was researching and prepping for this year’s rewardStyle Conference, which ended up being postponed #thankscorona. This post isn’t sponsored, but for real, holla at ya girl if you want it to be ha. Seriously though, I knew as soon as I visited their site I HAD to share it with you.
