HOW TO CALM THE CHAOS IN YOUR LIFE

Time to get a little personal up in here. So, I have to admit…most of my days are PURE CHAOS. I live and breathe by the quote “embrace the chaos.” And to be honest, I almost feel like a hypocrite crafting this post. However, I have been really working hard to hone in on managing my day to day, and I hope these tips help you do the same. Unfortunately for me, chaos creates anxiety, which leads to no sleep and horrible, no-good, very bad days. Maybe putting this down on paper is step 1 in my recovery. Hi, my name is Lindsey, and I am addicted to being crazy busy. So with that being said, here are 5 things you can do daily to calm the chaos in your life.

HOW TO CALM THE CHAOS IN YOUR LIFE

As we go through these 5 ideas, try to have an open mind and remember to be flexible. Some days are better than others. Other days are completely chaotic, and you are literally just trying to survive. As a working mother with a newborn and a toddler, I get it. Most days I am a hot mess, and to be honest, I thrive on the chaos. You have read my time-saving posts, such as my 3 Minute Skincare Routine or my 7 Minute Makeup Tutorial, all because more often than not, my days are insane in the membrane. However, we can’t live your lives in this state every single day, so these are some things I am trying to implement to calm the chaos when I can.

JUST SAY NO

Yep, you read that correctly. This is probably THE hardest thing for me to do each day, but it has been a primary focus for me over the past 18 months. People don’t do it intentionally, but when you are people pleaser, people take advantage of you. When you put others first (constantly), you end up neglecting yourself, causing more chaos and more stress. I am ALWAYS late. And a big reason for this is I put too much on my plate, most of the time for other people. This is not healthy. Yes, do things for others. Don’t be selfish. But don’t forego your normal responsibilities all day just to please someone else. This rarely ends well, leading to feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and panic.

If you say yes to everything, you are saying no to your sanity.

STOP MULTITASKING

Ok, so the queen of multitasking is telling you to stop. Yall, I am literally THE WORST. There are times when it is downright out of control. You would be SHOCKED (and disturbed) at how many things I can do at one time. HOWEVER, this leads to a lot of problems. I end up half-assing EVERYTHING i am doing, losing focus, and ultimately dropping the ball on something. Additionally, this is HORRIBLE for relationships and for your own self love. If I reflect at the end of a day full of chaos, I typically have multi-tasked my way through a million things on my to-do list.

MAKE A PLAN

Set goals for yourself, including yearly, monthly, weekly, and daily. And by goals, I am talking about MEANINGFUL goals, not “take out the trash.” Then, create a plan for these goals that will set you up for success, move you forward, and most importantly, reflect what you value. “A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

DISCONNECT

Sunday night, I didn’t look at my phone for probably 3 hours, and it was GLORIOUS, GLORIOUS (cue the Macklemore song). Did I miss anything so important that couldn’t be handled the next day? NOPE, sure didn’t. Both of my professions require me to be on my phone a lot. I manage a team of 13 sales consultants on one end and am a DIG-I-TAL influencer on the other end. BUT, in an effort to calm the chaos, I am going to try shutting it off each night for an hour. And just be. Speaking of…

JUST BE

Now, I realize this 1) feels like an oxymoron to making a plan and 2) requires a change in perspective. However, hear me out. How many times a day do you wake up, look at your phone, and start thinking about EVERYTHING you *must* get done? I promise you, the world will not end if you don’t get all of these things done. And in fact, all of us will die at some point with things still left on our to-do list.

What if we focused on ourselves during those first 5 minutes of the day? I want to try mediating for 5 minutes each morning to truly BE in the moment for the first part of my day. Or what about when you are driving your kids to school? If you are like me, you catch up on phone calls, put on makeup at every red light, and mentally make a to-do list a mile long. What if you lived in that moment and *only* focused on driving your kids to school.

Now, if you have a toddler, some days all you can do is NOT focus on them screaming, asking “WHY MOM”, or hearing “I want a snaaaaaaaaack” 1 million times. HOWEVER, the next time you are in the car with your child or spouse or friend, try engaging in meaningful conversation. Put your phone away. Look at your surroundings. And enjoy those 15 minutes of peace…if your toddler isn’t dumping sand all over your freshly cleaned car.

As always, thank you SO much for reading. Now, it’s your turn.
