So…here it is…ASHER’S ABODE…or should we call it THE LUTZ NEST? I can’t decide, but we absolutely LOVE it. It’s so hip but also very peaceful with the gray walls. Asher and I hang out in there a LOT during the day. And we moved him in there last night to sleep. Aw, he is growing up so fast. Since I have received SO many questions about Asher’s room, I am setting this post up as an FAQ.  So…here we go!

Q: WHERE in the world did you get that crib?
A: The crib is by an Australian company called Ubabub…they also make the clear shelves in the nursery. Here’s a blurb from their website: “Über stylish and practical, ubabub is a range of ultra-safe, durable and ecologically friendly cots, furniture and accessories. With a distinctly modern aesthetic, the carefully designed and constructed pieces not only add a streamlined modern edge to the nursery but also bring extra comfort and freedom to parents and babies.” This was the crib that I had originally wanted, but it was way too expensive. So, I proceeded with a different crib, that was very modern as well. I loved it, but not as much as the Ubabub. We had MAJOR problems with the company I ordered the crib from. I ordered it at the end of May and was told it would arrive in a few weeks. Well, June and July came and went (baby was due August 26th). The owner PROMISED me it would ship August 3rd. Well, guess what? It did not ship. So, I started looking elsewhere and prepared to make a claim on my AMEX. PROBLEM: The crib would take 12-15 weeks to come in. I searched high and low on the internet and called at least 30 stores. Same story. I let the owner of the company know I needed to cancel my order. I prepared to order the crib from another vendor and wait it out. I knew Asher could sleep in the bassinet. Long story long, the owner of the company totally made things right and gave me the UBABUB for the same price as the original crib I had ordered, which was about $1000 cheaper. She saved the day! And in that moment, my nursery completely changed directions.

Q: Did you design the nursery yourself?
A: Yep, sure did! Huge shout out to Pam at Cantoni in Atlanta. She helped me place the furniture and position the pieces correctly…Pam, I owe you a gift card! Be on the lookout for that.

Q: Where did you get your inspiration?
A: Ryan and I LOVE modern design. Our entire house is extremely modern…think Jetson’s modern…lot’s of color and futuristic shapes. My original nursery inspo board consisted of a lot of color. In fact, my main colors were TEAL, YELLOW, and MINT with hints of fuschia. My furniture was going to be all white with black and white accents. I had ordered an AMAZING teal daybed, lot’s of yellow accessories, and all white furniture. Since we were not finding out the sex, it was very gender neutral. However, the more research I did, the more I loved the monochrome look with a Scandinavian influence. As my original nursery plan fell apart, I was able to implement my true dream nursery. 😉

Q: So, when did you change the look of your nursery?
A: After the problems with the crib, I received an email from the daybed people. The daybed was going to be delayed as well. Can you believe that? It seemed like everything was falling apart. But at that point, I shifted into the black + white + natural wood mode. And PS, this was 2 weeks before Asher was born, so I really shifted it into overdrive. One part of the nursery that is not in these pictures is my accent wall (I started it the morning Asher was born) with the new daybed. The daybed has not arrived and the wall is not completely finished but think Swedish crosses and natural wood. SWOON! I look back now and HAVE to wonder if subconsciously I knew Asher-man was a boy all along. The nursery is VERY boy, and it’s ironic how I completely changed it 2 weeks before his birth.

Q: Where do you like to shop for the nursery?
A: Like I mentioned before, my crib is by Ubabub.  My mother-in-law made the crib sheet, and the fabric is from Spoonflower. I purchased the dresser and Moooi chandelier (LOVE) from Y-Living, and the bookcase is from Ikea. The acrylic bookshelves are also from Ubabub. The adorable clothing rail is from Anna Leena. The rug is CB2, and my AMAZING rocker is the Joya from Monte. The PRECIOUS bunny lamp is the Miffy Lamp.  The Keekaroo Peanut Changing Pad is seriously a game changer.  The push cart is Manny & Simon.  The stuffed animals, clothes, and books are from all over. Some of my favorites for clothes and swaddles: NUNUNU, HUX Baby, Freshly PickedModern Burlap, Rags to Raches, Indikidual, Baby Gap, Colette Bream, Lucky Boy Sunday, Babee and Me.  Oh, the star floor cushion is from This Modern Life, as well as the Noodoll white cloud pillow I will list and link everything individually at the end of this post, but if you have a specific question, please email me or comment on this post. OH FABULOUS NEWS! I just received word that our Kalon Studios daybed will be in on Tuesday! SCORE! I am still waiting on a couple of prints from the frame shop, but we are almost done.  I’ll post updates once it’s complete. #workinprogess #harderthanIthoughtwithanewborn

Q: Is Asher sleeping in the nursery?
A: YES! His first night in his crib was last night. Granted, Mom didn’t sleep at all, because I was a nervous wreck. But he did great and seemed to love it!

Q: Any tips for decorating?
A: I follow SO many cool shops on Instagram (speaking of…making sure you are following Life Lutzurious and ASHER-MAN on Instagram). If you are looking to decorate a new room, hit up Pinterest (follow me!), Houzz, and Instagram to get inspiration. Make sure you save the links in a folder and on a Pinterest board. Next, STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF! There are a million AMAZING nurseries out there, but use your creativity to design what YOU want. It can be daunting, but start early and research often. I spent at least an hour a day researching things for the nursery, putting together inspo boards, and saving links to stuff I loved. Enlist help if you need it! If it is too overwhelming, hire a decorator. Or reach out to your friends. I would be more than HAPPY to help you, so shoot me an email if you have questions.

Q: What are the real nursery must-haves?
A: Honestly, the nursery does NOT have to be completed by the time your baby is born, unless you plan on putting him or her in there day one. However, I would make sure you have the following items well in advance of your due date: changing table (with accessories: diapers, butt paste, wipes, etc), bassinet (if not sleeping in the crib), lot’s of clothes…seriously more than you think you need. Babies poop and pee a lot, and sometimes they mess up their clothes. Nightlight for nighttime diaper changes, noise machine (GAME CHANGER!), rocker or glider (perfect for bonding moments and feeding with baby), lot’s of swaddles and burp cloths, video monitor, and a dresser to hold diapers, clothes, etc. Seriously, that’s really it for the nursery. I will be completing a post about everything you need for your first few weeks at home, but that should get you started.

Here is a direct link to purchase a lot of items featured in this post…also, feel free to email me at [email protected] or leave a comment to inquire about any pieces I left off!

Hope you enjoyed the pictures of the nursery!  Rachel and Noah Ray took all the AMAZING pictures!  Make sure you check them out and follow them on Instagram HERE.  You can also check out our SWOON-WORTHY Maternity Session, our OH BABY Pregnancy Announcement, and our NEWBORN session…Rachel and Noah took all of those pictures as well!
